MACY unleashes her boldest sound yet with new single ‘Blackout’

MACY returns with a fierce new single, ‘Blackout’, released 8th August 2025. The track marks a striking shift for the Welsh pop artist, showcasing a darker, edgier sound that adds a thrilling new dimension to her music. It is a commanding release from one of the UK’s most exciting independent talents and another powerful reminder of her growing presence in pop.

Since her debut in 2020, MACY has released 17 singles and two EPs, amassing over two million streams worldwide. Her work has earned consistent radio support from BBC Radio Wales, BBC Introducing and BBC Radio 1. In fact, BBC Radio Wales added ten of her singles to their coveted A-List, highlighting her popularity and consistency.

Her live performances continue to impress. She has played sets at Clwb Ifor Bach, 110 Above, Rebel Fest and FOCUS Wales, as well as the Foodies Festival in both Cardiff and Bristol. Highlights include performing at The Principality Stadium in front of over 50,000 people, and a solo appearance at the BAFTA Cymru Awards held at St David’s Hall in Cardiff. That event was hosted by Alex Jones and featured a star-studded guest list.

She also appeared on ITV’s popular talk show Backstage and performed live on BBC Radio Wales’ Christmas special alongside Emeli Sandé. Her international debut came via an invitation from FOCUS Wales to perform at the M for Montreal Festival in Canada. Meanwhile, her single ‘Swear Down’ earned two spins on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show.

According to MACY, ‘Blackout’ explores the emotional exhaustion of connections that never quite worked. “I would say this song is about friendships and relationships that would never work no matter how hard you try or tried,” she says. The title came first, guiding the darker direction she wanted to explore. Her aim was to push into a moodier pop space, and that intent shines through.

A bold image to match a bold sound

Visually, the release reflects the shift in energy. In the accompanying photoshoot, MACY stuns in a sharp, one-sleeve blue dress layered with silver mirror discs. The sculptural silhouette and confident styling give her a fierce edge. Her look draws subtle comparisons to both Catherine Zeta-Jones and Marina Diamandis, combining timeless glamour with forward-thinking pop aesthetics.

The dress catches light from every angle, reflecting a sense of power and self-assurance. It is a bold choice, perfectly suited to the statement she makes with this release. Every element feels considered – a visual identity evolving in step with the music.

Whether performing in front of a stadium crowd or debuting a new image, MACY continues to turn heads. ‘Blackout’ captures the feeling of emotional clarity and the moment someone decides to stop trying. That message lands even harder when it is delivered with this much control and style.

Review

‘Blackout’ is a confident leap into darker territory. The production is sleek and atmospheric, with shimmering layers that add tension throughout. MACY’s vocal cuts through with cool precision, giving the song a detached edge that reinforces the theme of emotional distance. There’s heartbreak at the core of the track, but also freedom.

This feels like the start of a new chapter. The songwriting is sharper, the sound more assertive and the mood more intentional. MACY is clearly in control of her direction. ‘Blackout’ is more than just a breakup track – it is a reset. If this is the sound of what’s next, she is heading somewhere bold and exciting.
