Rianne Downey is keeping the excitement building for her debut album The Consequence of Love with the release of a brand new single, ‘Good In Goodbye’. The track is the fourth preview lifted from the album, which lands on 17 October through Run On, and follows the earlier singles that marked her as one of the most promising new voices in country-folk.
We already looked at the album announcement in detail in our previous feature, and now this new release adds more colour to what fans can expect. You can check out that full piece here, then come back and dive into this joyous new song.
‘Good In Goodbye’ opens the record, and it does so with a burst of brightness. Mandolin and banjo drive the track with a playful energy, while Rianne’s vocal ties the whole thing together. On paper the theme may sound heavy – finding peace in partings and recognising heartbreak as part of growth – but the delivery transforms it into a celebration. It is an earworm of the highest order, marrying reflection with an irresistible sing-along quality.
In her own words, “This song is about coming to terms with growing older, embracing change, and realising that love and loss are intertwined. It’s a reflection on finding peace in goodbyes and trusting that heartbreak is the doorway to growth.” It is this ability to weave wisdom into hooks that makes Rianne such a compelling new songwriter.
A voice ready for big stages
The single was produced by Grammy winner Ryan Hadlock at Bear Creek Studio in Seattle. His track record with artists like Zach Bryan and Brandi Carlile shines through, giving the music a warm, organic feel. The whole album is set to feature ten songs written by Rianne, with some co-written alongside long-time collaborator Nathaniel Laurence. If ‘Good In Goodbye’ is anything to go by, listeners are in for a collection that feels both classic and fresh.
On stage, Rianne is also on a roll. After delivering a sparkling set at TRNSMT Festival this summer, she is set to support Tom Grennan on his September arena run before heading out on her own headline tour. Dates across the UK and Ireland are already selling out fast, with London’s OMEARA and her hometown Glasgow show both marked as sold out well in advance. A new London date at One Ninety Four in March 2026 has been added due to the demand, and it would be no surprise to see more follow.
Born in Bellshill, just outside Glasgow, Rianne grew up surrounded by classic voices like Patsy Cline, June Carter, Townes Van Zandt, and Joni Mitchell, alongside the harmonies of Fleetwood Mac. More recent influences include Sierra Ferrel, Noah Kahan, and First Aid Kit, all of which can be felt in her blend of heartfelt country and folk storytelling.
With The Consequence of Love just around the corner, ‘Good In Goodbye’ is the perfect teaser: smart, uplifting, and unforgettable. You can check out ‘Good In Goodbye’ on all streaming platforms and follow Rianne Downey over on Instagram.
