Dutch indie-Americana artist PIEN has released her debut EP According to Plan, out 23rd May 2025. The project explores the tension between expectation and reality, wrapping introspective themes in dreamy textures and delicately crafted melodies.
Following the success of previous singles ‘Not Yet’ and ‘I Know’, According to Plan marks a significant artistic step forward. Produced by long-time collaborator Hattie Murdoch, the six-track EP features reflective, emotionally resonant songwriting with a blend of indie-pop immediacy and alt-country storytelling.
Among the highlights is the title track ‘According to Plan’, as well as the tender ‘Done’ and Dutch-language closer ‘Heet Laatste Hoofdstuk’ (The Last Chapter). Each track offers a different shade of PIEN’s sonic palette, from light-touch percussion and lush backing vocals to folk-leaning acoustic moments.
A debut rooted in honesty and change
“This EP is about finding peace with reality and how unpredictable and unfair life can feel sometimes,” PIEN shares. “It’s about accepting that dreams and perspectives can change—and that’s okay. I feel this is the first time I’ve really shown all of my colours and the truest version of myself. It also showcases the best of my vocal and writing abilities up to date.”
That artistic clarity has already begun to resonate. With growing support from BBC Introducing and Dutch radio, and over 22,000 streams on her previous single ‘WTF’, PIEN’s audience continues to grow. Her blend of magical vocals and honest lyricism will appeal to fans of Maggie Rogers, Kacey Musgraves and Suki Waterhouse.
As her debut UK shows get underway, According to Plan signals not just a promising start, but the arrival of a fully formed voice in indie-Americana.
