Dolly Doops opens up on ‘I Need A Doctor’

London-based queer femme artist Dolly Doops shares ‘I Need A Doctor’, a new single that explores mental overload, anxiety and connection through playful, layered pop production.

Dolly Doops is back with ‘I Need A Doctor’, the lead single from her forthcoming debut EP and a release that finds the London-based queer femme artist leaning further into vulnerability without losing her bite. Out now, the track turns mental overload into something melodic, playful and emotionally clear-eyed.

Beginning as a stripped-back pop moment before opening into something more expansive, ‘I Need A Doctor’ mirrors the escalating thought patterns at the centre of the song. That shift gives the single a strong internal logic, reflecting the paralysis, anxiety and message-pile-up that come with a busy neurodivergent brain while still holding onto the sense of personality that runs through Dolly Doops’ work.

A playful take on emotional overload

Dolly Doops has described the song as being rooted in the setbacks and faults that can come with being a deeply empathetic person, while also keeping the writing playful and visually expressive. That balance seems key to the single’s appeal. Rather than flattening the subject into something purely heavy, ‘I Need A Doctor’ makes room for colour, contrast and movement, allowing vulnerability and wit to sit side by side.

There is also a strong sense of sonic curiosity running through the release. Built from darker pop and synth-pop elements, the track layers Dolly Doops’ vocals with harmonies, vocoders, effects and additional textures from collaborator Seegz, creating something fuller and more distinctive as it unfolds. With more releases on the way and live shows planned across the UK, ‘I Need A Doctor’ feels like a confident next step from an artist continuing to carve out her place in the UK pop scene.
