Orchidelia

Orchidelia

Sheffield, England

While most young guitar bands are still rummaging through the remains of Britpop, Sheffield five-piece Orchidelia have set their musical time machine for somewhere around 1967.

Drawing on the melodic mischief of The Beatles and The Monkees, the orchestral extravagance of ELO and the eccentric pop intelligence of XTC and Squeeze, they’ve developed a sound that is gloriously out of step with contemporary fashion.

A prolific 2026 has seen a procession of singles and EPs, including Sundial, Forget Me Not and I Dried Up, charting their transformation from sixties-inspired guitar pop hopefuls into something altogether more adventurous.

Expect chiming guitars, bouncing pianos, unexpected saxophones, complicated romantic entanglements and a healthy disregard for taking themselves too seriously.

The songs are getting bigger. The arrangements are getting stranger.

And somewhere, a Monkee is nodding approvingly.
