Pink Opaque
Sheffield, England
Sheffield electropop duo Pink Opaque believe that making people happy might just be a revolutionary act.
Formed in 2024 by Danielle Cope and Pete Green, veterans of the city’s indie-pop underground, the pair abandoned traditional band arrangements in favour of a laptop, a collection of synthesisers and an apparently inexhaustible supply of glitter.
Combining the DIY charm of C86 indie with 1980s synth-pop, 1990s dance music and eight-bit video-game nostalgia, they specialise in irresistible melodies, knowing humour and an unapologetic belief in the transformative power of pop.
Singles including I Wanna Be Like Lauren Laverne and Bringing Back the Humans, alongside a gloriously deconstructed cover of Sugababes’ Overload, reveal a band equally at home celebrating pop culture and poking affectionate fun at it.
Their philosophy? Joy as praxis.
The revolution will have flashing tambourines.
