Dorothy Ella embraces freedom and transformation with debut EP Feeling So Free

A bold debut that celebrates rediscovery, growth, and the joy of finding freedom through honest songwriting and soulful pop energy.

Dorothy Ella has released her debut EP Feeling So Free, a radiant and soulful collection that captures heartbreak, healing, and the rediscovery of self. The UK-based singer-songwriter has been steadily carving her path across the independent scene for several years, and this new release feels like a defining moment – a statement of confidence from an artist stepping fully into her sound.

Finding freedom through change

The story behind Feeling So Free began three years ago when Dorothy set out on a road trip across New Zealand with her best friend. What started as a simple adventure became a life-changing experience. In the middle of that journey, she went through a painful breakup and began writing songs almost instinctively, not realising she was chronicling her own renewal. “This EP captures that transformation,” she explains. “It’s about staying true to who you are, finding strength, and rediscovering a voice you thought you’d lost. Travelling to the other side of the world reminded me who I am, and now I’m finally living in a world where I can be free.”

That sense of clarity threads through every track. The record turns personal reflection into rhythm and melody, balancing vulnerability with confidence. Dorothy’s sound has evolved from intimate live performances and standout singles into a bold, groove-driven collection that still carries her trademark emotional honesty.

A soundtrack of rediscovery

Across six tracks, Feeling So Free traces the path from loss to liberation. It features “Talk,” “Do You Still Lie? (Probably),” and “Enemy,” three singles that show the evolution of her voice and songwriting over the past two years. Each blends her pop-soul instincts with sharp lyrical storytelling. The result is an EP that feels both cohesive and deeply personal.

The lead track “Version Of You” offers one of her most reflective moments to date. Its lush, infectious arrangement surrounds lyrics about realising that the person you loved existed more in imagination than in reality. “It’s about holding onto an idea of who you hoped someone would be,” Dorothy says. “You create a version of them in your head and ignore all the bad things. It’s that realisation that they were never right for you, and almost grieving a relationship that didn’t really exist.”

From the funk-infused drive of “Talk” to the raw introspection of “Enemy,” each song captures a stage of emotional growth. Dorothy’s voice moves seamlessly between tenderness and strength, underpinned by smooth production and warm, organic tones. The EP’s sound draws from pop, soul, and R&B, while remaining rooted in her own unique perspective as a songwriter.

Coming home to herself

Feeling So Free doesn’t just document transformation – it embodies it. The music reflects years of growth that fans will recognise from earlier releases such as “Letting Me Out” and “Running Out Of Time,” yet it feels more expansive and self-assured. Where those tracks hinted at new beginnings, this project delivers them in full.

The EP closes the loop on a creative journey built on persistence, independence, and an unfiltered sense of joy. Dorothy’s message is clear: freedom isn’t about escape, but about understanding who you are and choosing to stand in that truth. “It’s about learning that you don’t need to run away to find peace,” she says. “You just have to reconnect with who you’ve always been.”

Feeling So Free affirms Dorothy Ella as one of the most exciting independent voices in UK pop – vibrant, expressive, and fully in command of her sound.
