Florence Jack steps forward with Love Heist, a debut EP that cements her as one of Scotland’s most intriguing new pop voices. Out 21 November, it spans six tracks that explore love, heartbreak, and self-belief with focus and confidence. The collection feels vibrant and natural, pairing Florence’s instinct for melody with her ability to express emotion in fine detail.
Fans already know the singles ‘Block You’, ‘Coffee Stain’, and ‘Your Loss’. Each one hinted at how far she was ready to go. The new additions ‘Baby I’ve Got It’, ‘What Boys Want’, and ‘Sit Down’ expand her sound into something richer and more assured. The result is a record that holds your attention from start to finish, built on clarity, rhythm, and charm.
Florence is much more than a singer or writer. She plays piano, guitar, bass, and cello throughout the EP, building harmonies and shaping arrangements herself. That control gives Love Heist its depth and unity. The cello, in particular, has become her signature, adding emotion and texture to her pop sound. Every element feels deliberate and full of purpose.
Her visual identity matches the music perfectly. With long hair, calm focus, and graceful stage presence, Florence commands attention through confidence rather than volume. She performs with ease and precision, expressive without ever overreaching. That same quality runs through the EP, where every part feels guided by intuition.
A debut built on focus and feeling
From the opening rhythm of ‘Baby I’ve Got It’ to the closing lift of ‘Block You’, Love Heist moves with energy and intent. Each track finds its own tone, held together by strong writing and thoughtful production. ‘Coffee Stain’ sits at the heart of the record, a stripped-back moment that shows her range and sensitivity. ‘What Boys Want’ leans into playful confidence, while ‘Sit Down’ brings groove and momentum that will thrive in live settings. Every song adds to the story without repeating what came before.
The title track ties the release together. It blends smooth production with lyrical honesty, giving the record both polish and heart. Florence’s writing stays sharp but unforced, filled with phrases that feel conversational yet weighted. Her melodies flow naturally, and her voice carries intent in every phrase. Nothing feels exaggerated or overworked. This is songwriting that comes from instinct and understanding.
Review
Love Heist sounds like an arrival. Every song stands tall on its own but gains strength in sequence. Florence shifts mood with precision, building a sense of movement that keeps the record engaging throughout. The arrangements combine space and colour, balancing catchy hooks with real emotion. The cello gives everything a cinematic edge, turning small moments into something lasting.
Her voice remains the core. Florence sings with directness and control, clear in tone and rich in feeling. On ‘Coffee Stain’, she carries quiet emotion that cuts through with ease. On ‘Block You’, she flips that tone into playful defiance. Across the EP, she moves effortlessly between intimacy and power, always sounding present and real.
There’s also a very clear progression in her sound as we move from track-to-track – ‘Your Loss’ is genuinely brilliant and when we hit ‘Sit Down’ with its trumpets and salsa feel it’s clear that Florence’s confidence in letting her music do the talking is well placed.
Every part of Love Heist feels intentional. The lyrics are precise, the production detailed, and the musicianship refined. It plays like the work of an artist already past her first chapter. Florence’s mix of focus and character gives her sound a rare balance between accessibility and substance. This is a debut that deserves attention, not because of hype, but because it earns every listen.
