The result is an intimate ballad that captures Immy’s gift for storytelling and her instinct for melody—drawing from influences as varied as Joni, Laura, and Ethan. The track leans on the classic songwriting tradition of the American Songbook while embracing a contemporary indie-folk aesthetic.
The single was recorded with what Immy describes as “first take magic,” allowing the emotion of the song to remain front and centre. Each breath, each piano hammer, remains audible in the final mix, inviting the listener into a close, confessional space. It’s a sound that feels both timeless and freshly personal.
A decade in the making
Although ‘Give Me Time To Breathe’ is her first official release, Immy is far from inexperienced. Raised in a musical household by British jazz luminaries Nikki and Pete, she was immersed in music from an early age. Her deep connection to jazz led her to study Jazz Voice at the Royal Academy of Music from 2020 to 2024, during which time she performed at prestigious venues including The Vortex, Ronnie Scott’s, and the Royal Albert Hall.
Beyond the UK, Immy has toured and recorded across Germany and Switzerland, collaborating with ensembles such as the Lukas DeRungs’ Quintet and Florian Arbenz’s Conversation sextet. While she has often supported other artists as a vocalist, this new chapter marks a definitive step into the spotlight.
With more music planned for release in August, ‘Give Me Time To Breathe’ signals the beginning of an exciting new phase for Immy Churchill as she transitions from sideman to solo artist.
