Isabelle Mettle releases genre-blending debut EP Equinox

Emerging neo-soul artist and producer Isabelle Mettle has unveiled her long-awaited debut EP Equinox, released independently on 22nd May 2025. A six-track project defined by lush textures, rhythmic experimentation and spiritual depth, it introduces Mettle as a bold new force in UK soul.

With a sound that fuses 90s R&B warmth with cosmic synths, broken beats and modern digital tones, Equinox channels the analog essence of icons like Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, while embracing influences from J Dilla, RAYE, and Snarky Puppy. Mettle’s jazz-inflected vocal delivery, rooted in emotional clarity, cuts through the production with both intimacy and command.

“This project reflects my brain completely,” she explains. “It’s both catharsis and conversation—I’ve let the music carry the healing, not just the lyrics. Every part of the composition was designed to help people feel held and understood.”

A mosaic of influences, a singular voice

Four of the six tracks—‘Underwater’, ‘Jupiter and Mars’, ‘Drama (Have a Think About It)’, and ‘Not Feeling You’—have already gained critical momentum. From TikTok virality to BBC Introducing support, these singles laid the groundwork for Mettle’s steadily growing audience. ‘Jupiter and Mars’, in particular, inspired the project’s conceptual arc, while ‘Drama’ found its form through workshops with Snarky Puppy.

Two previously unreleased songs, ‘Sacred Love’ and ‘London Weather’, round out the tracklist. Fan anticipation for ‘Sacred Love’ has been especially high, fuelled by live performances and social media buzz.

Raised in London and refined in Liverpool’s grassroots scene, Mettle began producing music at age nine and released her first single at 15. Since then, she has honed her skills as a composer and performer while contributing backing vocals for RAYE at the Royal Albert Hall, The BRIT Awards, and the O2 Arena. Her vocals also appear on RAYE’s Genesis live album and single.

Over three years in the making, Equinox positions Isabelle Mettle not just as a compelling songwriter, but as a visionary producer redefining soul and jazz fusion in 2025.
