Sofia Gillani Steps Into A New Era With ‘Wake Up’

Sofia Gillani brings clarity and playful energy to ‘Wake Up’, setting the tone for her upcoming album Reconceptualise.

Sofia Gillani returns with ‘Wake Up’, a bright, playful pop single built around clarity, presence and cutting through the noise of everyday life. Released on 13th March, the track sets the tone for what’s coming next, with the vinyl release of Reconceptualise arriving in April.

At its core, ‘Wake Up’ works as a reminder to slow things down. It focuses on how easy it is to rush through life or get caught up in overthinking, losing track of what’s actually in front of you. Sofia keeps that message direct, but never heavy, which gives the track a lighter, more self-aware feel.

That balance carries through the tone of the song. There’s a sense of ease in how it unfolds, with a delivery that keeps things grounded while still feeling upbeat. It doesn’t try to overcomplicate its point. Instead, it keeps bringing everything back to the present moment.

The single also connects closely with the wider direction of Reconceptualise. The upcoming album centres on electronic textures and introspective writing, with themes of reinvention, emotional release and growth running throughout. ‘Wake Up’ fits neatly into that, acting as an entry point into that mindset.

Previous releases help build that picture. ‘Read Your Mind’ focuses on vulnerability and connection through a synth-driven sound, while ‘Chains’ takes a more direct approach, centred on personal freedom and letting go. Together, they point toward a project built on reflection and change.

Sofia’s background adds context to this progression. She began performing at a young age, taking on a lead role in Evita at just nine years old. Since then, she has developed her work independently, writing, producing and directing her own material while building a distinct sound.

Her catalogue already includes singles such as ‘Water Run Dry’, ‘Levels’ and ‘Read Your Mind’, all of which have received support from BBC Introducing. Alongside that, she has performed across the UK at events including Haslemere Fringe Festival, HMV showcases and the Southbank Centre Futuretense event.

Clarity, confidence and a stronger sense of self

‘Wake Up’ feels like a natural step forward. It keeps the introspective side of Sofia’s writing, but presents it in a way that feels more immediate and accessible.

The message around stepping away from pressure and reconnecting with the present moment runs through both the single and the album. It reflects a shift toward a clearer, more focused perspective, without losing the emotional depth behind it.

There’s also a noticeable confidence in how Sofia delivers the track. It feels assured without becoming distant, keeping the listener close to the ideas behind it.

As a result, ‘Wake Up’ works both on its own and as part of a bigger picture. It introduces the tone, the themes and the direction of what’s coming next, while still holding its own as a standalone release.

Review

‘Wake Up’ lands quickly, but it doesn’t rush you. It has that light, playful feel straight away, then you start to notice what it’s actually saying underneath it.

Sofia keeps her delivery steady, which suits the message. The whole point is about slowing down and not getting lost in your own head, and the track sticks to that. It doesn’t try to push too far or do too much.

There’s something in the way she carries it that makes it stick though. It’s relaxed, but it still holds your attention. You don’t have to chase it, it meets you halfway.

And yeah, that’s part of it. It’s not just the idea, it’s how she presents it. There’s a confidence there that feels natural, not forced, and it gives the track a bit more pull than you expect at first.

By the end, it does what it set out to do. ‘Wake Up’ doesn’t try to overwhelm you. It just shifts your focus slightly, and that ends up being enough.
