TYGERMYLK shares powerful queer anthem ‘Confetti’

TYGERMYLK returns with their new single ‘Confetti’, released 8th August. It lands as a euphoric, defiant queer anthem. Marking the start of a bold new chapter, the track explores the emotional freedom that comes from rejecting other people’s expectations and living on your own terms.

Built on cinematic production and weightless vocals, ‘Confetti’ is more than a pop song. It is a celebration of self-acceptance, survival and truth. According to TYGERMYLK, the single captures a full personal and emotional release. “This song marks the beginning of me being completely free, gender-wise, sexually and emotionally,” they said.

Lyrically, the song speaks directly to anyone who has felt boxed in by narrow definitions of love. “Confetti explores the pervasive expectations that come from growing up in a small, conservatively minded town, where marriage was expected young and homophobia was ever-present,” they explained. “I grew up believing love looks a certain way: house, marriage, dogs, kids… and then realised you were chasing something that was never meant for you.”

Their writing also draws on themes of social conditioning, particularly for people raised as women. “I found a lot of clarity and inspiration in Dolly Alderton’s Everything I Know About Love. I don’t think I would’ve got married if it hadn’t been for the patriarchy convincing me that was the end goal,” they said. “There’s still this idea that if a woman’s single, she must be broken.”

A comeback rooted in truth

‘Confetti’ is the first single from TYGERMYLK’s upcoming debut album Local Girl, Always Tired, which is due later this year. The project will reflect their experiences of identity, illness and advocacy, including their long recovery from multiple throat surgeries and life with chronic illness. Themes of resilience, clarity and inclusion shape the heart of what is to come.

Known offstage as Hayz Harland, TYGERMYLK began releasing music in 2018 with their breakout single ‘What God Would Keep Us Apart’. That track premiered at Brighton Pride and attracted support from BBC News and Scene Magazine. Since then, they have built a reputation as a powerful live performer, with past appearances at Glastonbury and Isle of Wight festivals, and a televised performance on Channel 4’s The Last Leg.

Originally based in Hastings, they also spent years busking on London’s Southbank. Those early shows taught them how to connect with strangers through openness. That same vulnerability drives ‘Confetti’, which feels less like a return and more like an introduction to the most honest version of themselves.

Review

‘Confetti’ opens gently, but its message is bold. The vocals float above warm production, leaving space for every lyric to land. Rather than build toward drama, the track invites listeners into a space of calm self-assurance. TYGERMYLK writes from a place of lived experience, and that depth makes every line resonate.

The song is not just about letting go of one person, but of a whole idea of love that never fit. That clarity gives the track its lift. It sounds like healing in real time. As the first single from Local Girl, Always Tired, it hints at a debut filled with strength, softness and hard-won self-belief.
