Lydia May storms back with her new single ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’, out 7 November, and it hits like a rush of adrenaline. The track opens her upcoming debut EP and brims with attitude, grit, and raw self-assurance. Produced by Joey Walker at RYP Recordings, it fuses sharp-edged pop with a punch of rock, giving Lydia the perfect space to let her voice and personality take over.
Born in Melbourne and raised in London, Lydia grew up surrounded by music and performance. After training at the BRIT School and working her way through Camden’s live circuit, she built a loyal following known as the “Maybelles”. They’ve championed her message of self-acceptance since the beginning, and ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’ takes that spirit to new heights. It’s a fierce, unfiltered take on body image, confidence, and shaking off anyone who tries to tell you who to be.
The song lives up to Lydia’s description of it as “raw and fulfilling.” Her lyrics face insecurity without hesitation, while her delivery burns with strength. Guitars snap, the beat pounds, and her voice cuts clean through the mix. It’s the kind of track that makes you stand taller while you sing along. Each line feels deliberate, her phrasing tight and assertive, the chorus impossible to forget.
A new chapter for a fearless performer
Lydia’s live shows have already made her a standout. Her recent run supporting Eileen Alister’s UK tour gave fans their first taste of ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’, followed by a packed listening party in London. On stage she moves with intent, her long hair flying as her voice fills the room. There’s control in her performance, but it never feels restrained. She owns the moment completely.
As her debut EP approaches, ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’ signals an artist stepping into full focus. Every sound choice fits the story, from Joey Walker’s sharp production to Lydia’s direct, confident tone. The song doesn’t try to please everyone. It sets its own pace and dares you to keep up. Lydia writes and performs like someone who knows exactly what she wants to say, and this track says it loud.
