Jorge Wilson is stepping into a defining new phase with debut EP JPW, a five-track release that introduces the Stoke-on-Trent artist’s self-described “modern vintage” sound. Blending nostalgic textures with more forward-facing production, the project is positioned as both an introduction and a foundation for his solo work.
After years of playing in a band where he felt unable to fully express himself, Wilson launched his solo project in late 2023 and began shaping a sound that feels more closely aligned with his instincts. Writing, performing and producing much of his own material, he has built the project around independence and direct self-expression, carrying that approach into a debut that aims to show different sides of his identity while still holding together as a whole.
A debut built on growth and self-definition
Written over the course of a year and recorded the following summer with producer Steven Griffiths at Dead Door Studios in Stockport, JPW captures a period of clear development. Wilson has described the EP as the blueprint to his sound, with each track revealing different elements of his writing and production style while remaining sonically connected. That sense of progression also carries into the structure of the project, with the tracklist loosely following the order in which the songs were written.
At its core, JPW moves through themes of love, loss and letting go, balancing emotional relatability with an eclectic sonic palette. Wilson draws from indie pop, pop, R&B and rock, with influences stretching from Mac DeMarco, Steve Lacy and The 1975 through to Michael Jackson and The Beatles. Since launching the solo project, he has already picked up support from BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio USA, alongside features in The Sentinel and playlist placements, suggesting early momentum behind a sound that feels both familiar and distinctly his own.
