Bunny Alex catches that strange point where summer has almost gone on ‘The Ocean’, a soft bedroom-pop love song about falling for somebody and struggling to find words big enough for the feeling. The song was written by Bunny Alex and produced remotely by Bunny Alex, Henrik and Hjelmaas between the UK and Norway. It is the second single from her debut EP, due later in 2026, following ‘Say It’s True’.
For Bunny Alex, the ocean is more than convenient scenery. The German-Filipino singer-songwriter, who is based in Liverpool, wrote the track while at the beach in the Philippines, where being close to the water helped her unlock feelings she had been struggling to put into a song.

There is a gentle sense of discovery running through ‘The Ocean’. The song is less interested in a huge romantic declaration than in the smaller details that make a new person gradually become important, and in the frustration of knowing what you feel before you know how to explain it.
Soft vocals sit over buoyant bass and light guitar melodies, giving the track a hazy pop glow without making the arrangement feel crowded. That space suits a lyric built around hesitation, leaving the music to carry some of what Bunny Alex cannot quite say directly.
The track also fits naturally with the dreamy, nostalgic side of Bunny Alex’s songwriting. After beginning with violin and classical music while growing up in Belgium, she moved towards writing her own songs as a teenager before studying at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and releasing debut single ‘Habits’ after graduating in 2023.
Since then, her music has appeared on BBC Radio 1’s Future Pop with Mollie King, BBC Introducing Merseyside and Spotify playlists including New Pop UK and New Music Friday Belgium. ‘The Ocean’ feels smaller and more intimate than those milestones might suggest, concentrating on a moment between two people rather than trying to turn the song into anything bigger.

Bunny Alex’s voice is the reason ‘The Ocean’ lands so easily. There is a gorgeous softness to the performance that never needs to force the romance, and the vocal sits comfortably against the bouncing bass and gentle guitar rather than fighting for attention. The result has the warm blur of late summer without tipping into sugary nostalgia.
It is also close to the perfect song for winding down from summer. ‘The Ocean’ captures the point where bright evenings become shorter, new memories are already starting to feel nostalgic and a crush can still seem larger than the words available to describe it. Instead of chasing a huge chorus or dramatic payoff, Bunny Alex lets the track float at its own pace, which makes its calm feel earned rather than decorative.
