Recognised for raw and relatable songwriting, Emilia Tarrant releases her debut album why do i get out of bed?. The record gathers years of thoughts, experiences, and quiet questions into one cohesive project.
Emilia writes with a level of honesty that immediately stands out. Her songs move through mental health, relationships, grief, and the quiet doubts people carry through everyday life. Because she approaches those themes so openly, the music often feels close and familiar rather than distant.
Her journey toward this moment began in 2019 when she released her first single at seventeen. Since then, Emilia has steadily built an audience drawn to her thoughtful writing and calm indie pop sound.
Support from Radio 1’s Future Pop and BBC Introducing helped her songs reach wider audiences. Meanwhile, several tracks also appeared on Love Island, where her music featured thirteen times across the programme.
Live performance has played a major part in that growth. Emilia has performed at BBC Maida Vale Studios and appeared at Glastonbury in 2022. Those moments helped bring her songwriting to new listeners while building the quiet momentum surrounding her music.
During the ten months before the album arrived, Emilia released a run of singles that gradually introduced its sound. Those songs collected more than 350,000 streams, while the official music videos gained over 70,000 views online.
A record shaped by reflection
The title why do i get out of bed? comes from the closing track ‘Hamster Wheel’. The song raises the question running through the record and reflects on purpose, self worth, and the routines people move through each day.
Across eleven tracks, Emilia approaches that idea from different emotional angles. The album begins with ‘to be human’, then moves into songs such as ‘Square One’ and ‘Never Enough (feat. Ritho)’.
Elsewhere, tracks like ‘Bottled Up’, ‘Only Constant’, and ‘The Three Words’ continue the reflective tone. Emilia keeps the writing grounded in everyday life while allowing each song space to unfold naturally.
Songs that follow life’s difficult questions
Later moments such as ‘Grounded By Gravity’ and ‘Break Up With Myself’ deepen the emotional range of the album. The record then moves toward its closing stretch with ‘Life Expectancy’ and ‘Blanket Of Anxiety’.
Finally, the album closes with ‘Hamster Wheel’. The song brings the record back to the question at the heart of the project. Emilia wrote every track herself while working alongside several producers. Those collaborators include Ritho, Oli Som, Dylan Nash, Jules Konieczny, and Lewis Gardiner.
Each producer adds subtle textures to the sound. Still, Emilia’s voice and songwriting remain the focus throughout the album.
The release follows a sold out headline show in London last September. That momentum now carries into the arrival of her debut album, bringing together years of songwriting in one thoughtful and deeply personal record.
