Grace Calver to release playful new single ‘Milk’ this October

A cheeky indie-pop track that finds humour in life’s everyday disasters.

Grace Calver has announced her brand-new single, ‘Milk’, which will be released on 10th October. The track is a celebration of everyday disasters, clumsy mishaps, and the kind of awkward oversharing moments that make life entertaining.

Grace describes the single as the most “Grace Calver song” she has written so far, and it is easy to see why. From being late to forgetting milk altogether, she leans into life’s little catastrophes with humour and charm. “I am a drama queen of a songwriter after all,” she admitted, a self-assessment that fits the tongue-in-cheek storytelling of ‘Milk’.

Soundtracking everyday chaos

‘Milk’ is designed for overthinkers, chatterboxes, and those who turn small problems into big ones. Grace captures that chaos in a witty, self-aware way. One of her favourite lines, “accidentally liked his post from 2022,” highlights the universal panic of scrolling too far back on someone’s profile. It is funny, painfully relatable, and instantly recognisable to anyone who has done some late-night social media sleuthing.

Musically, the track draws on the spirit of Britpop with nods to Blur, Pulp, and Sleeper. Modern influences come through too, with Sports Team adding to the blend. A cowbell also plays a starring role, after Grace insisted producer Jos Shepherd push it high in the mix. The result is a track that balances throwback charm with fresh energy, while never taking itself too seriously.

Grace admitted she had a lot of fun writing the song, and it shows. ‘Milk’ feels like a diary entry set to music, exaggerating the everyday for comic effect. This is a songwriter who is not afraid to laugh at herself, and that self-deprecating honesty is part of her appeal.

Building her own world

‘Milk’ is part of what Grace calls her “blue era,” where playful nods to popular culture run through her work. This time she pulls in a reference to Scott Pilgrim, reimagined through her own ironic storytelling. It is another reminder of her knack for weaving fun and familiarity into her songs.

Since releasing her debut EP, my life and its disasters, in 2023, Grace has built a reputation for live shows that leave audiences laughing as much as singing along. Fans often approach her afterwards to share which lyrics made them laugh out loud, proving her writing style lands exactly as intended.

Her time on stage has also seen her support a long list of names including The Lottery Winners, Alfie Templeman, Andrew Cushin, PET NEEDS, T’Pau, and many more. It is an impressive roster for an unsigned artist still early in her career.

Recognition has followed too. Grace was named “one to watch” by BBC Introducing in 2023, won the Solo Female Award at the NMG Awards in 2022, and collected the Breakthrough Artist Award in 2024. These milestones reflect not just her talent but also the impact her music has made across East Anglia and beyond.

Review: Grace Calver – ‘Milk’

‘Milk’ is a cheeky, energetic single that perfectly captures Grace Calver’s talent for turning awkward little moments into pure indie-pop joy. It is witty without being throwaway and light-hearted without being shallow.

The standout lyric, “accidentally liked his post from 2022,” shows off her ability to pinpoint those painfully human experiences we all dread but cannot help laughing about. Combined with sharp Britpop guitars, playful rhythms, and a surprising love of cowbell, the track has a spark that feels both nostalgic and fresh.

Producer Jos Shepherd keeps everything crisp and fun, giving ‘Milk’ the bounce it deserves. Nothing feels overdone, but every element is intentional. The cowbell in particular becomes part of the song’s identity, turning what could have been a gimmick into one of its most memorable quirks.

Grace’s style has always leaned into humour and irony, and here she pushes that to the forefront. The result is a single that feels like her most authentic yet. It may not be her most serious work, but it might be her most enjoyable.
