Grace Calver to release carefree indie-pop gem ‘Nothing Too Serious’

Grace Calver returns with a vibrant new single, ‘Nothing Too Serious’, set for release on 27th June. Known for her playful songwriting and honest delivery, the Suffolk-born singer-songwriter channels post-breakup energy into something joyfully upbeat. The track arrives just in time to soundtrack road trips, messy nights out and car karaoke with your best mates.

Produced, mixed and mastered by Jos Shepherd, guitarist for Alfie Templeman, the song is built around a catchy guitar riff and breezy rhythm. Grace explains that she wrote it to remind herself to look forward rather than back. The lyrics focus on friendship, freedom and embracing new experiences. There is even a nod to The Inbetweeners for good measure.

Grace describes the track as “a lighthearted, summery song about spending time with my friends, day trips and nights out, taking selfies and just having fun.” She also gives a special shout-out to her friend Evie, who is mentioned in the song and celebrates her birthday the same day the track drops. The line about Evie spouting random historical facts is a standout moment.

Building a buzz with relatable charm

‘Nothing Too Serious’ marks Grace’s second single of the year and follows her 2023 EP my life and its disasters. The new track keeps her signature irony intact while introducing a polished and confident sound that feels tailor-made for sunshine and shared speakers.

Over the past few years, Grace has built a loyal following across the UK. Her support slots for acts like The Lottery Winners, Alfie Templeman and T’Pau have shown off her warm stage presence and comedic lyricism. She has earned multiple awards from the NMG Awards and BBC Introducing, helping solidify her position as one of the most entertaining and honest voices in indie pop.

Review

With ‘Nothing Too Serious’, Grace Calver once again proves her strength as a writer of relatable, personality-driven pop. The track leans into her usual humour while elevating the sound with brighter production. The chorus is instantly singable, and the storytelling brings listeners straight into the fun.

What makes this release shine is the genuine warmth behind every lyric. Grace doesn’t try to reinvent herself—she doubles down on what makes her unique. Her vocals sound confident and expressive, and the clean production helps the song stand tall among this summer’s indie releases.

Lyrics

So I’ve had a bad time, guess he wasn’t the one
But it’s time to let go and I’m coming back strong
And I’m feeling carefree, out here looking for fun
Spending time with my friends, driving down to Brighton
Just to look at the sea, it’s a good place to be
Need a breath of fresh air and the breeze in my hair
Maybe I’ll get a crush, nothing too serious
I’ll just go with the flow, it’s a good way to go!
A good way to go

My whole life is right here in front of me
A million choices full of opportunity
Might mess up sometimes but won’t let it worry me
Take all the chances, be who I wanna be

All the selfies with friends, we’re dressed up to the nines
Just for a night in the pub, it’s the time of our lives
Lots of bad inside jokes and we laugh til we cry
And then Evie started talking about history and no one knows why
Met a guy who is cute and my friends did approve
Drank some glasses of wine and forgot about time
And we stayed up all night, there was so much to say
Can’t remember it all but it wasn’t a date
Wasn’t a date

My whole life is right here in front of me
A million choices full of opportunity
Might mess up sometimes but won’t let it worry me
Take all the chances, be who I wanna be

If you think that they’re hot
You should just shoot your shot!
Ask them out on a date
You’ve completed it mate!

Your whole life is right here in front of you
A million choices, do what you wanna do
Might mess up sometimes but don’t let it worry you
Take all the chances, be who you wanna be too
