Georgia Black breaks patterns of power and control on Rope

Georgia Black unveils Rope, a soulful debut album that explores strength, surrender, and transformation through cinematic R&B and fearless honesty.

Georgia Black has released her debut album Rope, a bold and cinematic collection that dives into power, surrender, and rebirth. The North London artist blends alternative R&B, jazz, and soul in a project that feels both timeless and modern. It reflects a journey shaped by loss, love, and rediscovery.

A powerhouse vocalist inspired by Shirley Bassey, Etta James, and Peggy Lee, Georgia first made her mark fronting Agent Provocateur’s show band Dirty Stop Out. She shared stages with Mick Jones of The Clash and Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, developing a commanding stage presence and a voice full of depth. Her live shows have thrilled crowds from Camden’s KOKO to Vienna’s Life Ball and Berlin Fashion Week. Every performance has helped cement her reputation as a true force in modern soul.

A cinematic evolution

Since those early days, Georgia has carved out her own creative space. She combines classic soul textures with sleek, contemporary production, creating music that is at once nostalgic and fresh. Described by Earmilk as “dripping with soulful, bluesy tones, making you feel as if you’re in a Bond movie,” her sound is effortlessly cinematic. Collaborations with Jalen Ngonda and Sofar Sounds, plus a support slot for British soul legend Omar, show her versatility and ability to adapt across genres.

Her music has also found its way onto the big screen. Georgia’s songs appear in the feature film State of Consciousness, starring Emile Hirsch. Five of her tracks are featured, including “Ruler” and “Kicks,” both from Rope. Another track, “The Golden Doors,” was chosen as the film’s focus song. This connection between music and cinema highlights the visual and emotional depth of her songwriting.

Produced by Nutty P, Rope marks Georgia’s most personal and daring work so far. The record explores control, freedom, and the strength found in vulnerability. The title track captures the addictive tension of a toxic relationship. “Ruler” flips the story, celebrating the act of reclaiming power. Meanwhile, “Kicks” bursts with rhythm and energy, celebrating the rush that comes with release.

Each song feels connected to the next. Together, they form a story of growth and rediscovery. Georgia uses the imagery of ropes and knots to represent both restriction and liberation. “Through this album, I wanted to explore the points where surrender becomes strength,” she says in her notes. The result is a rich, layered soundscape that pulls the listener in.

Standing in her own light

Georgia’s range as an artist is matched by her skill as a storyteller. She performed in Punchdrunk’s immersive theatre production The Drowned Man, which caught the attention of Aaron Paul, Adele, Prince Harry, and Madonna. That background in theatre continues to shape her music. There is a dramatic quality in how she sings – honest, visual, and emotionally grounded.

In Rope, that quality comes into full focus. The record’s atmosphere feels both intimate and grand. The production moves easily between smooth R&B and darker, noir-inspired soul. It redefines vulnerability as power and shows how honesty can be just as commanding as confidence.

Georgia will celebrate the release of Rope with a launch show at Jam in a Jar, London, on 28 November. Fans can expect an evening of emotion, power, and raw performance. It will be a fitting setting for an artist whose presence fills every space she enters.
