Jemma Johnson – Dreams EP

We’ve been waiting ages for Jemma Johnson to release some of her covers in a format we could buy, so the arrival of her new six-track EP, Dreams, is a welcome. There isn’t anything self-created here – that’s not necessarily a bad thing – Jemma has a way of bringing something new to even the most familiar of songs.

Opening with a beautiful cover of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Dreams’ – it’s the perfect track for Johnson’s voice – the same can likely be said about everything here, but it’s the EP’s closing track, ‘Moon River’ which sees the EP end on a high; Jemma has both strength of voice and the control to use it to the best advantage that many more established artists lack. At times delicate but when the material demands she’s able to back it up with the power required.

We can’t wait to see where Jemma’s journey takes her next – we’ve already seen she’s a skilled lyricist with her last EP and her covers demonstrate that she’s able to do justice to some of the most recognised and acclaimed songs. One of our most exciting, yet undiscovered, young artists.

Dreams can be ordered via iTunes, Amazon and Google Play Music.
