Alicia Witt has announced her new album Between Heaven and Earth, due for release on 28th August 2026. Recorded in New York City in January 2026 with producer Joe Henry, the album draws on the enduring influence of filmmaker David Lynch, whose decades-long relationship with Witt as collaborator, mentor and friend shaped both the emotional direction of the record and the reflections at its centre.

The first single, ‘Thank You’, features John Paul White and introduces one of the album’s clearest ideas: that love can survive even after loss. Framed around gratitude, heartbreak and the possibility of unexpected new beginnings, it sets the tone for a record that appears deeply concerned with connection, acceptance and what remains after life changes shape. Witt has said the album emerged from her reflections after Lynch’s passing in 2025, drawing on lessons from their four-decade bond and exploring unconditional love, human connection and transcendence.

A reflective new chapter for Alicia Witt

Between Heaven and Earth was recorded live over four days, which suggests a record interested in immediacy as much as introspection. Across its thirteen tracks, Witt explores mystical connection, surrender, healing, nostalgia and fate, with the closing song ‘The Director’ directly inspired by David Lynch’s impact on her creative process. That gives the album a strong emotional frame from the outset, but it also helps position it as something more personal than a routine return.

Witt’s path to this point is unusually rich. She first appeared on screen in David Lynch’s Dune at the age of seven and has since built a screen career spanning more than 100 credits, including Two Weeks Notice, Mr Holland’s Opus, Urban Legend, Last Holiday, The Sopranos, Orange Is The New Black, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Twin Peaks. In 2024, she also starred opposite Nicolas Cage in Longlegs. Alongside that acting work, she has steadily developed her music career as a classically trained pianist and songwriter, releasing original music since 2009 and performing internationally, including at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry.

That dual perspective gives this album extra intrigue. Between Heaven and Earth arrives not from someone dipping into music on the side, but from an artist whose creative life has moved between forms for decades. The track listing points towards a record that balances intimacy and scope, from titles like ‘Artifacts’, ‘Kindred’ and ‘Undivided’ through to ‘More’ and ‘The Director’. With US tour dates for 2026 also now announced, the album looks set to open a significant new chapter in Alicia Witt’s musical story.
