fiig, the London-based non-binary queer indie folk artist formerly known as Izzii Grace, is preparing to release their upcoming single ‘Mother’ on 18th June 2026.
The release lands after fiig’s first London headline show, which takes place at The Muddy Puddle on 16th June 2026. ‘Mother’ moves their folk writing into an ethereal space, shaped by layered violin, dreamy vocal melodies and an almost cinematic atmosphere.
Queer longing in a dream-lit folk setting
Written about falling in love with straight women, ‘Mother’ looks at hope, heartbreak and the quiet acceptance that can sit between the two. The song places that feeling inside the wider world fiig is building, where folk textures, personal writing and a sense of safety sit at the centre.
That world also connects with fiig’s wider artist story. Their work draws on mental health, lived experience and their outlook on the world, with songs made to help listeners feel safe and seen.
On stage, fiig brings a bubbly, chaotic and charming presence to their performances, and the new single points toward a debut EP rooted in mystical, whimsical folk storytelling.
‘Mother’ Review
‘Mother’ works best in the space between softness and ache. The violin layers give the track a widescreen feel without pulling it away from its indie folk core, while the dreamy vocals keep the writing close and intimate.
The song’s strength sits in its restraint. Rather than overplaying the heartbreak, fiig lets the hopefulness and disappointment sit together, creating a track that feels personal, tender and carefully held.
