MALKA is the electronic alt-pop project of Scottish artist, songwriter and producer Tamara Schlesinger. After an early career as a gymnast, Tamara became the frontwoman of folk-pop band 6 Day Riot, whose music appeared in 127 Hours and Skins, before launching MALKA as a home for her more experimental ideas. Albums including Marching to Another Beat, Ratatatat, I’m Not Your Soldier and Anatomy of Sight have combined electronic production, layered vocals, rhythmic experimentation and melodic pop with writing about motherhood, relationships, isolation and personal change.

Tamara writes, records and produces her own music, giving MALKA’s work a strong sense of creative independence. Songs including ‘Not Alone’, ‘Matriarch’, ‘Flashlight’, ‘What You Get Out’, ‘Tell It Like It Is’ and ‘Sun Is Going Down’ move between intimacy, defiance and renewal, while recent releases have followed her recovery from Long Covid and return to live performance. Beyond her solo work, Tamara founded Hen Hoose, a Glasgow-based collective supporting women and non-binary songwriters and producers through collaboration, mentoring and new opportunities across Scotland’s music industry.
